CHAPTER IV

A protocol you can actually follow.

Per OMMA SOP STLSOP-0008rev09 (Feb 2026) — primary & reserve samples, tamper-evident seals, end-to-end chain of custody.

01

Prepare

Verify your METRC manifest, transport license, and sample weights. Clean utensils with 10% germicidal bleach and 70% ethanol. Free sampling kits available — pickup at OKC or shipped at cost.

02

Sample

Pull 0.5% preliminary sample for harvest batches, then aliquot the Primary (5g) and Reserve (5g). Each labeled with business name, license number, batch ID, and PS/RS designation.

03

Seal & Log

Apply tamper-evident seals over jar lids or bags. Complete the OMMA Field Sample Log with sampler name, time, conditions, and any deviations. Refrigerate or freeze until pickup.

04

Pickup or Drop-Off

Schedule via transport@scissortaillabs.com, or drop off at our OKC lab Monday–Friday, 9 AM – 6 PM. Samples must arrive same-day collected, on ice, seals intact.

CHAPTER V

Infused Preroll estimator.

Calculate the distillate & flower needed to hit your target potency per preroll, before you submit for testing.

Total flower needed grams
THC from flower (per preroll) mg
Distillate per preroll grams
Total distillate needed grams

Estimator math is approximate & for production planning. Confirm actual potency by submitting a sample for the Potency & Terpenes R&D bundle ($75 — OKC).

CHAPTER VII

Meet our founder.

A scientist on a mission to bring genuine analytical rigor to the cannabis industry — one panel, one client, one consumer at a time.

Ian earned his B.A. in Molecular Biology from Humboldt State University in 1995. From there, he moved to Albuquerque and joined a startup environmental analysis laboratory — climbing from bench chemist to technical director, to assistant lab manager, and serving as QA/QC Officer as the lab established itself as the leading analytical operation in New Mexico.

In 2015, Ian and his wife relocated to her hometown of Norman, Oklahoma. He took on the role of National Laboratory Director for a startup cannabis testing laboratory, commuting between Norman and labs in Oregon and California.

When Oklahoma's SQ788 passed in 2018, Ian saw the opening to build something on his own terms — a laboratory that would offer Oklahomans the trusted, accurate analytical services he believed every consumer deserved. Scissortail was founded that year.

Today, that vision has expanded into Ian's family's home state of New Mexico — delivering the same trusted analytical data to its recreational and medical markets, from the same hand that started it all.
